ICE DAM PREVENTION

Ice dams pose a real threat to your house because once the dam is formed, the excess water prior to the freeze has nowhere to go but inside your house. This water can damage walls, ceilings, insulation and anything else it comes into contact with.  

Ice dams occur when hot air rises from your home into the attic and then passes through the roofing material, melting the snow that has collected upon it. The snow runoff then makes its way down the roof, cooling along the way, until it eventually refreezes.

Proper application of attic insulation and ventilation ensures that heat is distributed evenly through the attic, allowing snow to melt at equal speed across the whole roof rather than in just one area.
